Eliud Kipchoge
I didn't grow up playing sports. My childhood consisted of playing hopscotch, hide-and-seek, riding a bicycle, and studying hard to earn good grades. My teen years flew in the blink of an eye as I started working at age fifteen while attending school. And then, I moved to the USA before my twenties. Still, playing sports was not in my realm - working and completing my bachelor's degree was the priority.
Until one day, my then-soon-to-be husband decided to sign us up to run the 2010 Disney Marathon. I said yes out of camaraderie and innocence.
It was a grueling experience. The one thing that kept me going was the determination to embrace this opportunity and to be called a "marathoner." My body was in the break of shutting down, but the perseverance and early discipline kept me going.
I kept showing up for the opportunity to run the holy grail of all marathons. I am proud to be a 2022 Boston Marathon Charity Runner finisher. I continue my quest to achieve a BQ because it is more than personal. And I continue to study and love this sport without its guarantees.
As a coach, my philosophy has always been to "Care." Each athlete deserves the attention and to feel that as a coach, I care about their goals and personal journey in this sport - regardless of pace.
I'm not the speedy coach you see on social media. But I have what it takes to go the distance - and I can relate to one's struggle or effort to hit a certain pace. I can relate and emphasize with an athlete where they are now and where they want to be.
Running is a very humble sport. Being humble you can go the distance.
"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." — Tim Notke.
Over the past thirteen years, my why has taken many forms and definitions. However, the core essential of my Why in the Running comes down to a sense of self-discipline, achievement, and mental fortitude.
As a 2022 Boston Marathon Charity Runner finisher and Running coach, I aim to provide each athlete with a unique training plan focusing on strength and adaptability while applying specific strategies with a holistic approach.
The first step to incorporate intentional Running into your lifestyle is to know and understand your WHY. The second step to improve your chances of sticking to a routine and reaching that finish line is to hire a running coach.
The athlete must know their WHY. The athlete and the coach must understand the value of communication and trust for progress to emerge. It is also vital that the running coach can empathize and relate to the athlete's running journey, seasonal fitness, and life challenges. It takes time and a lot of hard work to conquer the distance and the finishing goal. However, with commitment and dedication, anything is possible.
A training plan is not a one-size-fits-all, and a mindful run coach will work and design a training plan valuing periodization (8 -12 weeks of foundation building) specifically for the athlete's current fitness, goals, and needs to succeed best while implementing a holistic approach.
"Long-distance running is 90 percent mental, and the other half is physical."
– Rich Davis
One can't quantify mental strength and fortitude.
I am proud to provide the extra mental edge in serving my athletes, combining the physical-science aspect that running requires with the holistic modalities necessary for success and longevity in the sport of running.
